"Kilingi" is an African word meaning, "Joy arising through beauty". Both creating and viewing art brings joy into our lives. The timelessness and universality of art and experimentation is what is attractive to me as a painter. The paintings of Lescaux have not been improved upon with time or human progress. As the artist draws from their inner creativity, they are linked through the ages in the process of creating art that is reinvented with each generation. Freedom in experimentation and constant change allows me to try different styles, themes, topics, techniques and palettes, and span the polarities of realism to abstraction. There are some basic themes and styles that emerge in the last years. I am interested in layering images. Those layers can be etched glass or silk scrims above oil paintings, grids above backgrounds, or images viewed through fog. I also have been fixed on the integration of gold and silver leaf with painting. Most of my paintings are intended to depict our way of knowing the world through layers of perception, and ask the viewer to enter and discover.
